Description
Taxodium distichum, commonly known as Bald Cypress, is a woody tree or large shrub valued for its purple or lavender flowers during spring. It typically matures 50–70 feet tall and 20–30 feet wide. Grow it in full sun to partial shade in moist, well-drained clay or loam soil. Its native range or documented parentage is Eastern North America from DE to FL, west to Texas and Mexico. Wood ducks eat the seeds, as well as wild turkey, evening grosbeak, squirrels, waterfowl, and wading birds. In the landscape, it works well in shade tree, specimen, and coastal. Once established, it shows useful tolerance to deer, erosion, and fire.
