Cercis canadensis 'Garden Gems Amethyst'

Cercis canadensis 'Garden Gems Amethyst', commonly known as Eastern Redbud, is a woody landscape shrub valued for its pink, purple or lavender, and red or burgundy flowers during spring. It typically matures 20–30 feet tall and 25–35 feet wide. Grow it in full sun to partial shade in moist, well-drained clay or loam soil. Its native range or documented parentage is Eastern and central North America, NC to E. Mexico. 12 species of Lepidoptera use this tree as a larval host plant. In the landscape, it works well in border, flowering tree, and small groups. Once established, it shows useful tolerance to black walnut, compaction, and deer.
