Flame Thrower is a compact selection of redbud that features colorful foliage and light pink, spring blooms. This cultivar resulted from a controlled cross between Cercis canadensis 'Ruby Falls' and C. candadensis 'JN2' THE RISING SUN. Mature plants will reach up to 20' tall with a 15' spread. The heart-shaped leaves reach around 5.75" long and 5.5" wide and emerge with burgundy tones in spring. Some of the leaves mature to chartreuse green while others retain their burgundy color, providing a multi-colored effect. The fall color is typically shades of chartreuse yellow (Source: Missouri Botanical Garden)
