Description
Carpinus betulus 'Columnaris Nana', commonly known as Dwarf Common Hornbeam, is a woody tree or large shrub valued for its gold or yellow and green flowers during spring. It typically matures 40–60 feet tall and 30–40 feet wide. Grow it in full sun to partial shade in moist, well-drained clay or loam soil. Its native range or documented parentage is Europe to Iran. The tree provides shelter, roosting, nesting, and foraging site for small birds and small mammals. In the landscape, it works well in hedge, screen/privacy, and shade tree. Once established, it shows useful tolerance to drought and urban conditions.
