Description
Opuntia humifusa, commonly known as Hardy Prickly Pear, is a herbaceous perennial valued for its yellow flowers during summer. It typically matures 6–12 inches tall and 1–1.5 feet wide. Grow it in full sun in average to occasionally dry, well-drained sandy or loamy soil. Its native range or documented parentage is Eastern and central USA into Ontario. Birds and Box Turtles will eat the fruits. In the landscape, it works well in border, small groups, and coastal. Once established, it shows useful tolerance to deer, drought, and dry soil.
