Description
Nandina domestica 'Obsession', commonly known as Nandina, is a woody landscape shrub valued for its white flowers during spring. It typically matures 3–8 feet tall and 2–5 feet wide. Grow it in full sun to partial shade in moist, well-drained clay or loam soil. Its native range or documented parentage is Central and Southern China and Japan. Birds and small mammals eat the fruits. In the landscape, it works well in mixed borders, mass plantings, and pollinator gardens. Once established, it shows useful tolerance to deer, drought, and heavy shade.
Benefits
Builds the middle layer of the garden, adding structure between perennials and trees. A better candidate for landscapes with deer pressure than more browse-prone plants.
