Distylium 'Coppertone', commonly known as Distylium ornamental, is a woody landscape shrub valued for its red or burgundy flowers during spring and winter. It typically matures 2–10 feet tall and 3–8 feet wide. Grow it in full sun to partial shade in moist, well-drained clay or loam soil. Its native range or documented parentage is E and SE Asia, hybrid origin. Its flowers can provide seasonal forage for bees and other beneficial insects. In the landscape, it works well in accent, border, and hedge. Once established, it shows useful tolerance to diseases, drought, and heat.
