Description
Abies concolor, commonly known as Silver Fir, is a woody evergreen conifer valued for its foliage, form, and structural presence. It typically matures 30–70 feet tall and 10–30 feet wide. Grow it in full sun in moist, well-drained clay or loam soil. Its native range or documented parentage is Western North America. Birds find cover and nesting sites in the branches. In the landscape, it works well in accent, screen/privacy, and shade tree. Once established, it shows useful tolerance to drought, heat, and pollution.
Benefits
Gives the garden year-round structure, texture, and winter presence. A better candidate for landscapes with deer pressure than more browse-prone plants.
