Description
Iris virginica, commonly known as Southern Blue Flag, is a herbaceous perennial valued for its light purple flowers during spring. It typically matures 1–2.5 feet tall and 1–3 feet wide. Grow it in full sun to partial shade in moist, well-drained sandy or loamy soil. Its native range or documented parentage is North America. Its flowers can provide seasonal forage for bees and other beneficial insects. In the landscape, it works well in mass planting, pond, and riparian. Once established, it shows useful tolerance to deer, diseases, and wet soil.
