Cercis canadensis 'Hearts Of Gold'

Cercis canadensis 'Hearts Of Gold', commonly known as Eastern Redbud, is a woody tree or large shrub valued for its pink and purple or lavender flowers during spring. It typically matures 20–25 feet tall and 30–35 feet wide. Grow it in full sun to partial shade in moist, well-drained clay or loam soil. Its native range or documented parentage is Eastern and central North America, NC to E. Mexico. 12 species of Lepidoptera use this tree as a larval host plant. In the landscape, it works well in flowering tree, mass planting, and small groups. Once established, it shows useful tolerance to black walnut, compaction, and deer.
