Description
Solidago speciosa, commonly known as Goldenrod, is a herbaceous perennial valued for its yellow flowers during fall and summer. It typically matures 2–7 feet tall and 2–3 feet wide. Grow it in full sun in moist, well-drained garden soil. Its native range or documented parentage is North America. It supports Wavy-lined Emerald (Synchlora aerata) larvae. In the landscape, it works well in meadow, naturalized area, and butterfly garden. Once established, it shows useful tolerance to deer, diseases, and drought.
Benefits
Extends color and interest into the part of the season when many gardens start to fade. Supports a more active, living garden with flowers that pollinators can use. Fits naturally into Mid-Atlantic planting palettes and habitat-minded gardens.
