Ajuga 'Chocolate Chip'

Ajuga 'Chocolate Chip', commonly known as Bugleweed, is a herbaceous perennial valued for its purple flowers. It typically matures 1–6 inches tall and 1–1.5 feet wide. Grow it in full sun to partial shade in average, well-drained garden soil. Its native range or documented parentage is Europe, western Asia, and North Africa; these cultivars are selections of Ajuga reptans. Its flowers can provide seasonal forage for bees and other beneficial insects. In the landscape, it works well in mixed borders, mass plantings, and pollinator gardens. Good siting and appropriate moisture help maintain its best form through the season.

Helps knit plantings together, cover bare soil, and make beds feel more finished. Creates an early-season lift after winter with fresh color and growth. Brings more movement to the garden by drawing butterflies and other pollinators. A better candidate for landscapes with deer pressure than more browse-prone plants.
