Carex cherokeensis

Carex cherokeensis is a clump-forming ornamental grass or sedge valued for its brown or copper, gold or yellow, and green flowers during spring and summer. It typically matures 1–2 feet tall and 1–2.5 feet wide. Grow it in full sun to partial shade in moist, well-drained clay or loam soil. Its native range or documented parentage is Mid-Atlantic and Piedmont region of eastern North America. It provides cover for small animals like toads and nesting material for birds. In the landscape, it works well in accent, border, and mass planting. Once established, it shows useful tolerance to deer, heat, and wet soil.
