Dodecatheon meadia, commonly known as Shooting Star, is a herbaceous perennial valued for its purple flowers during spring. It typically matures 1–2 feet tall and 8–12 inches wide. Grow it in partial shade in moist, well-drained clay or loam soil. Its native range or documented parentage is South Central Canada to Central & East U.S.A. Its flowers or fruit attract bees. In the landscape, it works well in border, naturalized area, and slope/bank. Good siting and appropriate moisture help maintain its best form through the season.
