Description
Dicentra spectabilis, commonly known as Bleeding Heart, is a herbaceous perennial valued for its deep pink w or white tips flowers during spring. It typically matures 2–3 feet tall and 1–3 feet wide. Grow it in partial to deep shade in moist, well-drained clay or loam soil. Its native range or documented parentage is Siberia, Japan, Northern China, and Korea. It attracts hummingbirds and butterflies. In the landscape, it works well in accent, border, and specimen. Once established, it shows useful tolerance to black walnut, deer, and heavy shade.
Benefits
Creates an early-season lift after winter with fresh color and growth. Brings more movement to the garden by drawing butterflies and other pollinators. A better candidate for landscapes with deer pressure than more browse-prone plants.
