Cephalanthus occidentalis 'Sugar Shack'

Cephalanthus occidentalis 'Sugar Shack', commonly known as Buttonbush, is a woody landscape shrub valued for its red flowers during summer. It typically matures 5–8 feet tall and 3–6 feet wide. Grow it in full sun to partial shade in moist, well-drained clay or loam soil. Its native range or documented parentage is East Canada, U.S.A to Central America, Cuba. Flowers are attractive to hummingbirds, butterflies including eastern tiger swallowtails, and bees. In the landscape, it works well in small groups, meadow, and pond. Once established, it shows useful tolerance to compaction, deer, and erosion.

Provides seasonal color and texture and may support pollinators or other garden wildlife.
