Clethra alnifolia 'Hummingbird'

Clethra alnifolia 'Hummingbird', commonly known as Summersweet, is a woody landscape shrub valued for its white flowers during summer. It typically matures 5–10 feet tall and 4–6 feet wide. Grow it in full sun to partial shade in moist, well-drained clay or loam soil. Its native range or documented parentage is Eastern North America. Hummingbirds, butterflies, native bees, and other pollinators are attracted to the nectar blooms. In the landscape, it works well in border, foundation planting, and screen/privacy. Once established, it shows useful tolerance to deer, diseases, and erosion.

Provides seasonal color and texture and may support pollinators or other garden wildlife.
