Cercis canadensis 'Ruby Falls'

Cercis canadensis 'Ruby Falls', commonly known as Redbud, is a woody landscape shrub valued for its purple or lavender and red or burgundy flowers during spring. It typically matures 5–6 feet tall and 3–4 feet wide. Grow it in full sun to partial shade in average, well-drained clay or loam soil. Its native range or documented parentage is Eastern and central North America, NC to E. Mexico. The flowers provide nectar for bees and once pollinated form leguminous pods, the seed can be consumed by birds. In the landscape, it works well in accent, barrier, and flowering tree. Once established, it shows useful tolerance to black walnut and deer.
