Description
Podophyllum peltatum, commonly known as May Apple, is a herbaceous perennial valued for its white flowers during spring. It typically matures 1–1.5 feet tall and 9–12 inches wide. Grow it in partial to deep shade in moist, well-drained loamy soil. Its native range or documented parentage is North America. The flowers provide food for various species of bees. In the landscape, it works well in meadow, naturalized area, and woodland. Once established, it shows useful tolerance to black walnut, deer, and drought.
Benefits
Fits naturally into Mid-Atlantic planting palettes and habitat-minded gardens. A better candidate for landscapes with deer pressure than more browse-prone plants.
