Carex pensylvanica

Carex pensylvanica is a clump-forming ornamental grass or sedge valued for its brown or copper, cream or tan, green, and white flowers during spring. It typically matures 1–8 inches tall and 1–12 inches wide. Grow it in full sun through deep shade in moist, well-drained sandy or loamy soil. Its native range or documented parentage is Mid-Atlantic and Piedmont region of eastern North America. It supports larvae of certain satyrine butterflies (Nymphalidae-Satyrinae). In the landscape, it works well in mass planting, naturalized area, and woodland. Once established, it shows useful tolerance to deer, drought, and erosion.
