Maidenhair Tree ·
Description
Ginkgo biloba 'Autumn Gold', commonly known as Maidenhair Tree, is a woody tree or large shrub valued for its cream or tan, green, and orange flowers during spring. It typically matures 50–80 feet tall and 30–40 feet wide. Grow it in full sun in moist, well-drained clay or loam soil. Its native range or documented parentage is China South-Central and China Southeast. Its flowers can provide seasonal forage for bees and other beneficial insects. In the landscape, it works well in shade tree, specimen, and street tree. Once established, it shows useful tolerance to deer, drought, and heat.
Benefits
Adds long-term structure, shade, and a sense of permanence to the landscape. A better candidate for landscapes with deer pressure than more browse-prone plants.
